Healthful wishes to you all. The deadly blowfish is no match for our number one American vitality. Rob took us to his favorite sushi bar in Kyoto, Uo-Zen. It is just a couple of blocks from our Ryokan. I (Rod) had fugu for the first time. Not only fugu, but also fugu shirako. For those who don't know, fugu is blowfish which contains deadly poison. You have to pass a test and have a special license to serve it. The idea is they leave enough poison to give you a bit of a high without making you ill. Neurotoxin roulette. Shirako is the testes of a fish. It is like sack of white goo. Fugu shirako is a delicacy. We had it grilled which makes it more palatable. The first bite is a little hard to keep down, but the second and third pieces resembled a small baked brie. Once you get past what it is you are eating, it is actually quite interesting.
