Well, because I hadn't been sure that the bike would be manicured yesterday, I had reserved an extra nite in Rapid City and that meant leisure time to ride the Black Hills today. Yay! It was so relaxing to just roam back around Rushmore, Keystone, Custer and Hill City and a few other spots.
I saw a buffalo grazing near the road and eased on ahead to pull over and quietly get a couple of pictures. The Crazy Horse Monument is impressive in the scope of what the sculptor envisioned (you've probably heard that Rushmore will fit in the head of the chief alone). I hope to return in the next decade to see what further progress is made.
The Reptile Garden was fun with the chance to take pix of the guide feeding chicken legs to a bunch of alligators lazily milling about. Seeing the giant tortoises scarfing down veggies was also remarkable. I think I've also found the perfect home for our umbrella cockatoo if she gets tired of us - they have a lovely small aviary with macaws, another cockatoo and other parrots.
The one attraction I did not consider was the drive-through Bear Country Safari. Yeah, somehow I figured that it would be just too exciting to ride my Victory through a bear wildlife park.
