After the usual trip of minibuses, trucks and hitchhiking, we made it to Fernao Veloso, a nice stretch of beach outside the rather dreary port city of Nacala. This is the site of a terrific camping and bungalow resort called Bay Diving. As the name implies, we spent 3 days diving the bays beautiful coral reefs and eating some terrific seafood prepared by the owners. Arthur and Sara run a pretty tight ship and it's a great place to kick back and do some serious diving. The bay offers some nice relaxing dive sites that have very beautiful coral and nice fish.
I got in 4 dives and V went on two. I had a really nice night dive right off the shore of the resort. Just off the beach we saw 3 really big octopus, a marbled electric Ray (watch out they pack a punch!), 2 small morays, squid and a beautiful Spanish Dancer. Diving at night means lots of different stuff is out and about and it is such a surreal feeling to be diving in darkness with only your flashlight to light up a small area at a time. Turning off the flashlights and then waving your arms around allows you to see all the phosphorous in the water, crazy stuff.
