Since we'd cancelled the Overland Club South America trip we had a lot more flexibility and dicided to visit a few more countries not on our original list. The most obvious stop for us was Pamama as our fligt to Quito in Equador had a stop over in Panama City. After investigating the best places to visit and changing our flight to add in a few days as a stop over we discoved that Pamama is one of the contries South Africans need visas for. Visa's that can only be obtained in you countryof residence.

So that idea was scrapped and our hard earned tourist Dollars will now be spend elsewhere! Good luck with growing your tourism Panama!! You wont be seeing the Vine Hooligans again!

Hi. Before you get too indignant about Panama refusing to let you in without a visa, you should know that South Africa has precisely the same requirement for Panamanians, including making them apply in their home country, not the port of entry. These agreements are usually 'reciprocal' (i.e., tit-for-tat), and I wouldn't be surprised if South Africa started the battle. Panama is generally quite welcoming. It's a shame how often first-worlders assume they're being hard done by and don't think about what their country does to the poorer nations. -Bill
