We left the beautiful San Francisco behind and headed down the equally beautiful stretch of road called Highway 1 or commonly known as 101. This famous stretch of road runs almost for its entirety right along the coast line offering magnificent ocean views along some very steep cliffs. The drive reminded us a lot of The Great Ocean Road in Australia and Chapman's Peak Drive in South Africa.

The drive was slow but this gave us all the more chance to take in the awesome views of the crashing ocean and the steep cliffs running into the sea. We'd planned to spend the night in a little village called Big Sur among the giant redwoods and hopefully a chance to fit in a walk in the forest. Rain put a damper in that idea and we ended up spending the night near the fire in the motels cosy restaurant before retiring to watch a movie.
