Baan Porn Inn

The island is 90 minute speed boat ride from Pak Bara and passes by a couple of the Ko Tarutao Marine Park islands which are almost undeveloped, something unheard of on most Thai islands. Ko Lipe is one of your typical tropical islands, mountainous jungle surrounded by crystal clear turquoise blue waters and powdery soft white sand. The island predominately consists of low rise, rustic development and none of the big high-rise hotels or complexes, a real little slice of paradise. When walking through the little paths on the island you get a real rustic feel with the simple little shops and restaurants all competing for the same business.
Our accommodation for the next three nights as at the recently completed establishment called the Baan Porn Inn, we were a little sceptical at first but thought it might just be a common Thai name. We were checked into a simple room with fan, TV and attached bathroom. The art on the walls if I can call it that stuck with the theme of the Inn and seemed if it was cut from an old workshop calendar or girly mag. I did happen to peep into one of the other rooms while it was being cleaned and it's pictures seemed a lot more explicit. I gave the room a quick sweep for any hidden cameras after that! The other thing I must mention about the room was that the bed was possibly the hardest bed we had ever slept on, a slab of marble would have been more comfortable. We are not sure if the rock hard beds are an eastern thing or they are purposely trying to bugger up our backs so we use their massage services the next day.
The island and its beauty made up for all the accommodations shortcomings. We spend the next two days lazing on the beach, reading and swimming it the 30 degree plus crystal clear waters. We might even have got a little bit of a tan for our effort. This is how holidays should be. In the evening the island comes alive with lights and sound as the 20 or so bars start opening. All seem to have their own theme and music blaring which makes it nice to take it all in by having a drink and then moving to the next bar.
On the second night we settled in at one of the beach bars and were treated to a spectacular lightening show! We sipped our drinks soaked up the cool music and watched the amazing lightning storm over the ocean. This seemed to inspire the staff at the bar and their resident fire juggler came out to show us his light show. We were entertained the entire evening with his twirling sticks of fire and interesting manoeuvres.
The important thing we realised about making the most of island life is to ditch your watch and just listen to your body. Sleep when you are tired, eat when you are hungry swim when you are hot and drink when you are thirstily! That's when you truly start relaxing. Fortunately we have another 10 days of island life as we move on to Ko Phi Phi island and then Ko Pha Ngan.
