Sunday morning Jim and Esna took us on a road trip around some of the mountains near their Samford. The town is surrounded by state forests and some scattered farm lands making it extremely picturesque. This area is famous for its slow winding roads and tight hairpin bends, perfect for motor biking. We must have passed hundreds of bikers out on their breakfast run, this made me very envious.
We stopped at various lookouts and also took a short 6km walk through the forest to a lookout points above Samford Valley. The forests out here are wet, green and teeming with bugs, birds and reptiles and the walk was a sensory overload. Fortunately we did not cross any deadly snakes even though Jim reckons we would have been extremely lucky if we did. We did happen to see two rather large tree iguanas which scampered up the neared tree as we came closer as well as some interesting insects as you might see from the pictures
We so much enjoyed our stay with Jim & Esna that we stayed a day longer that initially planed. It was great to catch up with the two of them and it was very difficult to leave after 10 days of luxury and great company. We particularly enjoyed the chats we had about all the real life job problems we've left behind for a year and Jim's good advice to remove the training wheels. ;-)
Thanks guys so much for your hospitality and giving us free reign in your home. We will look back in a few weeks and wish we could have spent a few more days with you guys. But the show must go on and we still have a lot of Queensland still to see.
Next stops is Fraser Island the world's biggest sand island, Magnetic Island for a sailing and Barrier Reef diving trip and then finally Cairns for a day or two before we leave for New Zealand on the 20th of February.
IMH:
Jim and Esna have a beautiful house in a green, lush village about 30 minutes from Brisbane CBD. Apart from making us feel at home and treating us to luxuries we've missed, such as individual bedside tables and lamps (amazing what you find amiss when travelling extensively), they also took some time off for a weekend away and went to extra effort in showing us the Brisbane area and Sunshine Coast.
Thank you so much for accommodating us and may you all your plans and dreams for the upcoming months come true!

I left a message on your phone to let you know if the roads are bad getting to Townsville you are more than welcome (although it is a long drive back) to stay here till you re-arrange flights etc to get to NZ.
Take care and ring us when you can.
