Next stop Brisbane, a few hours drive from the Coffs Harbour. Not long after leaving Coffs it started raining and didn't stop the entire day. On route we stopped in at Byron Bay a beautiful little costal town for lunch and a stroll around the main shopping area. It was initially our plan to spend a night or two in Byron but the prices in this little town are astronomical, so we settled for a little look see and lunch.

In Brisbane we would be visiting some old friends, Jim and Esna, who were kind enough to put us up for a few nights. Jim and I know each other from the good old days in Langebaan where we shared a house for a few months while he was on a windsurfing holiday. Over the years we have kept contact and often caught up in London, South Africa and Dubai but at long last we are able pay them a visit in their new home.

The first night at Jim and Esna's we had a scrumptious Ausie style BBQ and chatted the night away over a 'few' bottles of wine we had bought along the way. It was great catching up and reminiscing about the old days, we even fitted in a phone call to Nigel in Langebaan to find out how he was doing???

Monday we spent the day on a walking tour of the city. We popped into a few of the museums and galleries on the south bank and took a lovely stroll through the botanical gardens. Later the afternoon we met up with Jim and Esna for a few sundowners over the Brisbane River.
Tuesday and Wednesday it pretty much rained nonstop! The area has been classified with level 6 water restrictions (the worst kind apparently) so the rain was welcome. This gave us a chance to catch up on some admin and start looking at booking the New Zealand leg of our trip. It was also great just being able to relax indoors without feeling pressure to get out and sightsee. We did however manage a drive out to the Gold Coast and the picturesque Tambourine Mountain.
Thursday morning we set off to the Sunny Coast for two nights, hopefully the rain will take a break and we have a little sunny weather.
