The road between Adelaide and Mount Gambier as we previously wrote is nothing much to 'write home about'. From Mount Gambier to Melbourne you pass through a much more picturesque stretch of road know as the Great Ocean Road and (for any South Africans it could be compared to the spectacular Chapman's Peak drive). The big difference is that the cliff's that run along the coast are lime stone and therefore are eroding far quicker than the SA Cape coastline, that why the famous 12 Apostles have been reduced to 8.
Unfortunately the day we took this drive the rain came down in buckets, often reducing visibility to only a few meters. When we could see more than a few meters the view was amazing as can be seen from some of the photo's. Every stop at a tourist sight meant putting on your fleece, rain coat and beanie, bbbrrrrr. Not very pleasant. We eventually gave up this routine of kitting up and stripping off and decided push through to Melbourne. This drive I would definitely come back and do again, and rather than drive it all in one day take a few days and really enjoy the sights and beaches, weather permitting of course.
