Yes, for those of you tuned up on your song lyrics, my last point of call in Bolivia was Copacabana, although not one referred to in the cheesy pop tune!

Copacabana is a small town on the shores of Lake Titicaca, the world´s highest navigational lake and home to Bolivia´s Navy being as though the country lost all its coast line through various wars.

As I´ve just mentioned Copacabana is a very small town, but with a Cathedral completely out of proportion to its surroundings (i.e. its massive). Furthermore, despite its altitude it feels almost like a sea side town with snack stalls lining the lake shore and pleasure boats for hire! However, its not the size of the Cathedral which draws tourists to this part of the world, but rather the islands that lie on the Bolivian side of the lake which crosses Bolivia and Peru Copacabana Lake side

. The most important of these islands is Isla Del Sol, from where it is believed the Inca God of the Sun arose, and more specifically from a rock on the island called Rock Titicaca. The island itself is quite large and I decided to take a boat to the north end of the island, do a 3 hour trek down to the south of the island and stay the night before heading back to Copacabana the following day. The island was extremely beautiful, with interesting landscapes set against the brilliant blue waters of the lake. I wish I could have understood a little more about the history of the island, but unfortunately the man who met us off the boat to conduct a tour only spoke Spanish and as my history related Spanish vocab is somewhat limited, my linguistic ineptness in this instance let me down.
