Today we got up early to get things ready to go catch our bus then boat to the nearby island called Nusa Lembongan. We packed things up and decided to go to the street, with our heavy bags, to find a cheaper taxi than the hotel, so we go out there and strangely enough there are no taxi cars just motorbikes. This was extremely weird since the day before we were asked a thousand times whether we needed transport, and the one time we do need one there are none. Finally, we find one and he tries to charge us like 3 times the rate…we got it down to half, thankfully.

So next we went on a bus ride to the other side of the island than took a small boat to another island. The boat ride was so beautiful and serene, and finally we were starting to feel like we were on vacation (we are not tourist city people!). When we get off the boat we see this cute Indonesian girl with a sign reading "Travis", that was a first for us. As she walked us to the bungalows, she offered us to rent a motorbike $6 per day and we took it. We asked for helmets I swear…but she said there are none in the whole island also its very small with no cars.

So first I have to describe our Secret Garden Bungalow. You walk in and there is this beautiful garden in the middle of about 8 bungalows, there is a water fountain and lounging hut. Then in front of the bungalow there is a stoop with two chair and a table…oh and a hammock to hang out outside. When you walk in there is a huge round bamboo bed and the bathroom is partially outdoors (practically outside with a roof). It is so beautiful and we fell in love immediately…oh yeah and its only $12 per night.

So after enjoying a cold shower (there is no need for hot water since it's so HOT all day), we went to a ride on the motorbike. Travis was a little shaky at first but got the hang of it pretty fast. We rode all around the island (which is pretty small) and then crossed a bridge to the island next to us Nusa Ceningan and rode all the way around that one too. It’s crazy because these islands are not very touristy and people are still living like they did long ago. They live in little straw huts and farm seaweed all day long. They are about the friendliest people we have met. Everyone always says hi or smiles, and all the kids want to give you high fives as you drive by.

We had lunch and dinner at local food stalls and everything was super yummy, and we still have not gotten sick! In the evening, we went for a swim but realized that it was low tide which is when all the seaweed farmers go out there to harvest so there was not that much room to swim.

So we go back to our place absolutely mesmerized by the wonderful day we had (Travis wonders what heaven must be like because today was so great).

That night, we were getting ready for bed and went outside to brush our teeth. As I walk out, I see a little snake on the ground (only a couple inches, but I am a girl so I freaked out!) and I shut the door behind me. It turns out that when you shut the door it locks you outside because the lock is messed up. SO we ended up locked out! Travis climbed the wall towards the front of the bungalow and realized that we had locked the front door from the inside and had locked all of the windows. Ahhh! So Travis went to try to get help from the staff while I was stuck in the back bathroom (freaking out because it was all my fault)… Travis came back with Ibo Wayan (possibly the nicest man on earth) and they tried getting in a few places. Finally, he hopped over to the side where I was at and we were able to pry open a side window, THANK GOD! The two staff here were so apologetic when it was actually my fault, it just shows how genuinely nice they are.

So as Travis would say, I had a “knuckle head” moment…but it all ended ok. Let’s hope it does not happen again!

Good night!
