At church services I was able to meet everyone; now I'll see where they work and hear a little about what they do.
The office is located in a secure area of Davao. The building was the former location of an USAID office which had requirement of certain international security standards
When walking into the office it is cheery, clean and inviting. A glass wall with the United Church of God logo is the first appearance of the office. Behind a beautifully contoured reception desks sits Viel Gervise. There is a waiting area to the right. The first visible office is that of accountant Stela Mae Cambere. After walking past the reception the media area is located to the right and the mail processing area to the left. Further to the left is the conference and employee lunch room.
It is good to see Daniel, Richard and Charles Macaraeg at one time and seeing their workstations. Also Roy Gilos and everyone else whose names do not come quickly to me as I write.
There are two more sections to the office in the wing of the main office building. There is a meeting room that is used for training, seminars and the like. Then there is yet another storage area where literature and other items are stored.
We had a meeting of employees where I address all the office. Ed and Lorna Macaraeg came, too
I spoke to the office about being constantly vigilant of the Vision of the Church and making certain that we are not only focusing on our busy activity, but being constantly vigilant of the final outcome that we are seeking which is changed lives as a result of preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and then caring for those people.
Also, I spoke to the office about the role of Mr. Earl Roemer as Senior Pastor and how we are organized from the home office in managing our international areas. I spoke about the relationship that Earl Roemer and I have and our strong desire for the furtherance of the Church's mission in the Philippines.
I really appreciated the attentive and pleasant staff of workers in the office.
We then had lunch with some of the staff and discussed various office and reporting functions. It was a most profitable day that I really appreciated appreciated experiencing with our laborers in the Work of God.
Last month I visited our national office in Canada and found the spirit and found the operation of the two offices comparable
We then went back to the hotel in the late afternoon and had a group dinner with all the staff and their families. We stayed on late into the night with lots of pleasant conversation with and particularly enjoyed having their lovely children being with us. Various durian desserts were available and I enjoyed the Durian Creme Brulee (not available in all areas).
Tomorrow morning, Tuesday July 16 we leave for the second segment of our journey to the Visayas....to the island of Leyte where we will meet with elders and leaders of congregations. All I can say is that this is an amazing and most enjoyable experience and has bonded me to these beautiful people and their leadership.
