The first thing I did was walk into the center of Harare to get exercise. So much of the trip is sitting and then sitting some more. The rain let up and I made a run for it. Today, being Monday, the traffic and hustle and bustle is far greater than yesterday. I see a lot of young people in school uniforms on the way to schools....looked like high school kids One very sweet moment was a father holding the hand of 5-6 year old boy smartly dressed in a uniform with a knapsack on him.
I took pictures of buildings in the center and all of a sudden was surrounded by 3 plainclothes police men. Oh oh. They started questioning me. Why was I taking pictures? What was of special interest in the building across the street
"State House" and the president is there often. Not allowed to be photographed.
Travel tip #51 When in a country where you see no other people who are white, think twice before taking ANY pictures at all. You are not in the United States.
I'll be flying in a few hours down to South Africa and will post what I have so far and will add to this day later. I look forward to seeing all our friends, the Wallis's, Websters and others in Pretoria.
