Today is the Last Great Day and I am assigned to give both the sermons and conduct the special blessing of the children ceremony. I  am told that there are only ten new children this year.  We have three elders, Kambani Banda, Jerrison Schachoongo and myself who will do the blessing.  Wilson Nkhoma has been sick with the flu.

Zambia speaks many languages.  In this area there are three, Tonga, Bemba and Nyanja.  The Zambians have decided to have the English sermons we give to be translated in Tonga which is best understood, espcecially by the ladies.

The music from the various groups is really wonderful.  There is no accompaniment.  They all sing a cappella.  I captured a lot of it on my video camera….if it's only the  sound that I have, I will be happy.  They do a splendid job.  They had three different groups:  children’s, youth and adults.

I gave two sermons. The morning one was on the Law of God and it’s magnification.  I tried to show God’s thinking BEHIND the law of God in how it fosters respect and builds relationships.

During the lunch break period we experienced two special events. The first was the baptism of two ladies, Pauline Mwashi, the wife of Ephraim from Mapoko, and Visa Hamuchindu (the taller one).  This event was witnessed by almost everyone who gathered around the blue baptismal tank (or font, as they called it).  Elder Jerrison Schachoogo and I did the baptisms and then had the laying on of hands.  Jerrison’s prayer was particularly moving and sincere.

We discussed some of the local members happenings in the Zambia churches. Rebecca Chimpemepele age 48 or 49 died of cerebral malaria a few weeks previously  She had seven of her own children and cared for three others. She was on the one of the Feast films. Emily, mother of Nice died also not long ago  There is a wedding in Kasumpa  October 14th coming up.

My last sermon was the "Meaning of the Last Great Day."
In the evening we had a great talk with Joe Banda.  He has really been doing great.  He lives out in Mumbwa near Apren Momba.  He gardens a  40 x 40 plot of ground for garden
