I've already written the first entry and I realized I haven't at all explained why we even entertained the idea of blogging about our travels!
These blog entries serve a dual purpose:
1) As we both understand how important it is for our parents to know we're safe, we thought it might be nice to have them follow us on our trip and check in on us via this blog.
2) In thinking about how I couldn't possibly be the only one who likes to distract myself from a boring task at work, I wanted to give you something interesting to look at online besides after Christmas Deals on Amazon.com and reading blogs about celebrity scandals.
So, we truly hope you can find a great distraction and assurance that we'll be safe by reading this blog as we make our way from Phnom Penh to Sai Gon, with a few nice trips in between to Hue, Nha Trang, Da Lat, and Soc Trang.
We're off to Phnom Penh first, where we will visit the five facilities of Cambodian Children's Fund (to see the work being done to assist the impoverished children and families of Steung Meanchey), where I will be training the Phnom Penh team in using the CCF database, as well as getting to know the hard-working staff and hanging out with the wonderful children at CCF. Victor will be taking, what I am certain, will be some AMAZING photographs there. He'll also be around the city observing some Cambodian history and sharing it with you.
On the 31st, we plan on heading to Sai Gon from Phnom Penh by bus (the Mekong Express). We'll probably leave in the early morning to get there by the afternoon. We are really looking forward to celebrating the New Year in South Viet Nam.
We'll try to update you in the first few days with some photographs. Though Victor is mainly using his film cameras, I'm bringing his Digital SLR along as well as my point and shoot, so we can share those photos here.
