Where I stayed
aboard a big orange bus driven by Gollum, thankfully he looked nothing like the
fish munching creature! The first bus we were on didn't last long, because someone had shot through one of the windows so we had to change buses! -Only a pellet gun, don't worry NZ isn't ridden with gun crime! We drove along the coast up to Kaikoura and thankfully
into the sunshine! Stopping along the way we saw seals basking on the rocks enjoying
the sun and the sea. The coast was very cool and really impressive and the line
of snow capped mountains that backed the town were spectacular. After stopping
at a view point we headed to the one street town. That afternoon we went whale
watching and it was phenomenal we saw 7 sperm whales
immense it's hard to describe but to see them so close and see their tales flip
up and creat a big splash on their dive down was seriously impressive.
The coastline also
looked pretty awesome too!
The evening was a
quiet one with everyone on the bus taking over the hostel and we sat and had a
film marathon which was pretty cool. Next day was when we all dragged ourselves up horribly early and in my case to drive nearly all day. It was pretty dull but i switched buses and it was cool cause the new bus load were lovely, the driver however would become the most annoying person on earth very quickly. But more on that later, we drove through picton and nelson and down the coast to a wine tasting place where we miraculously got a wine tasting for free and let me tell you, there is not much better than free wine! So off we trundled a glass of wine does wonders for snoozing doesn't it?! Luckily this got me past an hour or so of driving, we soon arrived in a place called old macdonalds farm... and guess what, i got the song stuck in my head for hours! Luckily it disintegrated over the evening with a BBQ much wine and even a few beers! The farm had llarms and lovely little staffy dog so i was quite happy! Mind you wine a camp fire and food are a pretty good combo!
