Well after leaving Waitomos glorious glow work filled caves i drove the roads back to Taupo where i had just been and headed south to an Art Deco town called Napier. The really excitement however came when i was sat behind a truck at a yellow line when i smelt burning, i look around and see that a part of the truck is aflame! So in my new position as unofficial MI5 agent i beeped my horn, he just looked at me like i was mad so as he drove off i leapt out my car, bottle of water in hand and chased him up the road waving and screaming like a mad woman he pulled over and me and my bottle of water doused the flames before calling the fire brigade!
Well it was very interesting! Certainly broke up the drive!
Anyway after an hour or so i arrived in the glorious town of Napier and a gorgeous little hostel. So i wondered the streets of the town which is an Art Deco town so the buildings were really cool and it was a charming little place, almost like a time warp. After a lovely night of watching movies in the hostel with a nice bunch of people i headed off to get my head down!
That morning i wandered again and thankfully it was glorious sunshine so i found the pebbled beach and sat in the sun watching the waves break. It did at that point occur to me that only a few months ago i had been on the other side of this very ocean doing exactly the same thing in the pacific highway in California. A kinda lovely and humbling little thought. Well after that i climbed back into my beloved automobile and headed for Wellington.
On the way i drove through Hawkes bay and saw row after row of vineyards and luckily a lot weren't open yet, a bit early in the season! The temptation to get absolutely hammered was immense! Anyway i soon saw the mini skyscrapers and mental traffic system that only ever means one thing, a city! Oh yeah so after frankly doing bloody well i found a hostle and settled myself in for some chilling out and went to the cinema and then got harrassed endlessly by a bandana wearing german, as i tried to sleep. Wellington was pretty cool, it has all these winding hills where houses are built into and the view over the city looks like a scene from the Hollywood hills, all very lush green and beautiful. It had cool street art and a good little vibe. I did nothing very active really just headed for the ferry in the afternoon and it was all aboard for the south island!
