Well after leaving Paihia i headed back onto the road and headed further North. My first stop was the historic town of KeriKeri where i stopped off to take a look at the Stone Store and a walk around some ground of ruins of settlers homes.
After that i drove drove drove stopping at many a cute litlle bay in a town called Whangaoroa and then onwards to a drive along the Aupori peninsula to my ultimate point of Cape Reigna. As i drove unfortunately it got foggy and rainy, undeterred i pressed on, stopping off at the ninety mile beach along the way to take a look at the never ending sandy planes.
I carried onwards and then eventually hit the off road last 20 km on the way up to the light house. By this point though i was driving through fog so thick i could see nothing so was doubtful of the clarity down at the northern point. I got there and literally couldn't see my hand in front of my face, let alone the meeting of the sea and the ocean. And no sign of any light from the lighthouse! So i turned back and double backed and headed towards the closest town of Pukenui where i bedded down for the night.
I woke up to clear and blue skies so i headed straight back to Reigna and was thrilled to be able to find the path to the lighthouse and to see the break in the middle of the water where the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean meet. And i have to say it was pretty impressive! I hung about for a while, enjoying the sea air and the sunshine, walked to teh lighthouse and then eventually hit the road for a very boring and tiring day of driving for hours back south to a town called Orewa where i stayed and got set for the rest of my trip!
