Well Ottawa! It was an interesting visit and a pretty little place. I spent 10 days in prison there... but more about that later!
A small city and an odd one for the capital but none the less it was kinda cool.
My visit started well, a guy i met in California was there at the same time as me in the same hostel. Which by the way was the jail. WE went out drank beer, caught up and all of that stuff that you do over beer!
My first few days were spent wandering around and on my first day after a walk along a pretty canal and down to the river i snoozed on the banks in the sunshine. The city is historical and has all the houses of parliament and that so i took a wander and checked out the architecture!
I went to the houses of parliament and took a tour of them and went to the top of the Peace tower which gave nice views over the city. The parliament houses were cool, being a little politics geek i'm fully aware no one is ever gonna let mere mortals off the street into the houses of parliament in london, let alone with a camera! Cool to see how the whole operation is run.
I took a tour of the prison i was staying in and it had some serious history, including death row gallows and the smallest cells i've ever seen. Back in the olden days it was the worst prison in the world apparently and the 3 people they hanged there were all pretty much innocent, this apparently is why the place is haunted... haunted you say? poppycock! well at least i thought so until i woke up the next day my face covered in a big and unexplainable scratch! I was pleased i waited until ear the end of my stay to do the tour!I also checked out the art museum after the promise of Andy Warhol work... alas there was none there was however some good Manet pieces, always a delight.
The real highlight of ottawa was however meeting someone who i can only describe as my 'soul sister'. Lets just say that much vodka and coke was consumed over many chats of music and books and films and mostly the beauty of Mr James Dean Bradfield. Good old Ash knows what i'm talking about! Anyway i spent most of my time with this lovely girl and we got very drunk many times and of course swore to travel to Texas for SXSW in 2010... we wait with baited breath!
