Where I stayed
It was so great to see her! I was over the moon, we got a cab to our hotel, which turned out to be probably the nicest hotel i will ever stay in!
our first night was what comes after every long flight, sleep!
The first day we wandered the streets and headed up to 5th Avenue to see the Empire state and then we went to Grand central station for a look round. It really was a day of getting to know the city and then after some dinner we had another early night.
The next day were were the ultimate tourists, we went to Battery Park and took a walk around before hopping on the ferry across to Liberty Island and then to Ellis island
Next day we hit greenwich village to meet up with some people i had met on my bus trips who were also in the city, after a look around we met them for lunch and spent the afternoon with them, nice to catch up and spend some time in a quieter part of the city.
The next day we got on an open top double decker bus and toured the city seeing all the sights. It was brilliant and very very hot! we were cooking!! After spendins some time on the bus we got off at south seaport and sat int eh sun shine drinking what turned out to be ridiculously strong cocktails! We ended up having to seek air con and food to recover! It was in hindsight really very funny! In the evening we headed to the chaos that is Times Square to see the lights of the city and headed up to a revolving restaruant and had dinner up there watching the city go by us and relaxed overlooking the always beautful city at night.
Next day we hit broadway and hid from the torrentila rain by going to watch Jersey Boys. Well it had to be done! :-) It was phenominal, so so good, plus there was a real fitty in it which is always nice! Such a good after noon and a great musical
Sunday was sunny and we met another friend of mine in the city and headed to Central park to take in the sun and sit in the haven that is the park. It was ever beautiful and after a few hours in there we headed to the natural history museum where we ducked the guards and went in for free. It turned out to look very boring so after a sort while we went back to central park where we sat for four hours watching a small band who played beatles covers by the john lennon 'imagine' memorial. It was a great way to spent a sunday afternoon, totally relaxing and completely brilliant!
Next day we got up early (not a running theme of the trip so far) and headed up the Empire state building, it was the perfect day for it, so clear and great weather. We took in the sights with our cabbie audio guide (very entertaining!) It was great as it always is up there! The city skyline is so impressive, i don't care what anyone says the buildings in new york never fail to impress. After this we headed up to Rockafella centre and then to St patricks cathedral, we relaxed near the fountains in Rockafella and people watched before marvelling at the incredible Cathedral.
Wednesday saw us jump on the staten island ferry and enjoy the ride across before wondering around the island grabbing some lunch and then going back across to manhattan. After this we walked for a fair while to reach the brooklyn bridge which a la 'staying alive' we walked across. It was wicked and we got a great view of the city and the statue of lib as the sun set. We spent the evening in brooklyn and went for a lovely dinner near the waterfront. The perfect way to spend our last evening.
The next we didn't go to far, just hung out near our hotel and packed and all that. It was horrible to say goodbye to my mum and it was like leaving home all over again, saying goodbye sucks so much. So that was the Big Apple and it's fair to say even though it's insanely busy it's also a great place!
