G'day!

Yes, I finally arrived safe and well, after a delay from Heathrow due to a thunderstorm, and a bit of a lunatic taxi driver that tried to convince me he knew where we were going, even after I had to shout out to him when he was driving past the hostel! And he also tried to tell me that I should expect England to be cold all the time because the UK is very close to the North Pole, just like Tasmania is very close to the South Pole and they have snow there. You'll be surprised to know that instead of arguing, I just nodded, smiled and crossed my fingers, hoping we would eventually get to the hostel!

I managed to meet a couple of people on the flight from Heathrow to Hong Kong that are in Melbourne for a couple of days who were really nice, and we met up to go the football today. It was Carlton vs Collingwood and I was sat with a couple of very kind, patient Carlton fans who explained the rules to me, so felt obliged to support Carlton, despite them being the underdogs. Surprisingly Carlton won 111-79 (if memory serves me right), and they're currently bottom of the league, so I'm taking all the credit for the win!

The hostel I'm in at the moment is OK. I've met a couple of the girls I'm sharing with last night and they seemed nice. The other girls are just really considerate; I've not managed to meet them yet, but they hardly made any noise at all when they got back last night.

I had a bit of a wander round Melbourne before the footy; I really like it. It looks really well kept. There are lots of new buildings and skyscrapers mixed in with older style architecture, but even the older stuff seems new and clean, like they really look after it.

I'm staying outside the city centre in St Kilda. I've not had much of a chance to explore the local area, that will have to wait until tomorrow. I've got the Neighbours night tomorrow (fingers crossed Dr Karl is there) and have a day trip on the Great Ocean Road booked for Tuesday, before heading to Sydney on Wednesday. Hopefully I'll have photos to post on the next blog entry. Remember, members of the skulk, my middle name is neither Electrical nor Technical, so it might take me a while to figure out!

See you soon,

Vicky
