After just one very wet and windy night in Wellington (planning to spend more time there on the way back to Auckland), I crossed over to the South Island for new exciting adventures!! After waiting for a bus at the train station (VERY VERY bizarre concept, but I promise you, that was how it worked), we got to the ferry and had our bags checked in (again, slightly odd), and headed on to the ferry.
Most of the journey was to be honest fairly dull (when you've crossed from Dover to Calais as many times as I have, a ferry ride really isn't that exciting), with the main highlight being that I didn't feel sick!! But the last hour or so was amazing, as the ferry cuts through the sounds and the top of the South Island. The ferry comes in through Tory sound to Picton, and it was just beautiful.
It was so peaceful, and every now and then you could see nestled amongst the hills or on a private beach, a beach house (or bach as they call them here) totally inaccessible other than by boat. How cool would that be??? Unfortunately though there was no time for hanging round in some isolated part of the world, and it was straight on to the Abel Tasman National Park for us...
