And so on to another highlight of the trip - of the liquid variety. When in Rome and all that, so I decided it was time to try out some of the famous Australian wine on a trip to the wineries of the Hunter Valley. The Hunter, about 2 hours north of Sydney, has a number of big internationally known wineries, such as Lindemans, Wyndham Estates and Rosemount Estates, but as I was told quite forcefully on one of the visits, they're not the spirit of the area - which is in small boutique wineries selling only from the cellar door....

We certainly got to have a good taste of the area anyway, with 6 wineries in one day. As we were warned by our driver, we were feeling "a little drunk" by the end of the day. In fact just after lunch I was starting to feel slightly sick - and there were still another two wineries to go.

As well as an excellent excuse to get drunk on wine (I am my mother's daughter, there's no denying....), it was actually very informative (no really - I know you're all laughing!). The owners of the wineries told us loads about the grapes, the wine making processes, the area etc etc. And they were incredibly friendly and generous with the quantities.

The landscape of the area was also incredibly beautiful, full of rolling hills covered in vines - even on an overcast day, it was incredible surroundings! Very very beautiful. And of course it became more beautiful as the day went on....

Anyway, most of the day is fairly blurred, so probably not really that much to tell.....
