Got myself up at 7.30am this morning to watch the Man Utd v Liverpool match. (kicked off at 7.45am here). It was a really good game and was nice to see Utd get a bit of a thrashing.
The commentators here in South America are great. Not only do the 'Gooooooooooooool' shout, but they have songs for all the individual players, its hilarious.
After watching the drubbing, it was time for me to show off my own unique abilities on a football pitch. No, not just the lying around on the floor and the shooting for the corner flags!!
As promised, Ramiro picked us up from our hostel to take me to play Peruvian 5-a-side. I had no trainers so I had to play in my walking boots. This was no hindrance for a player of my ability as I dazzled the locals with my genius style of Futbol Ingles! As you may have gathered, the Vickers bagged a hat-trick in an awe inspiring display.
The trouble with Peruvian football is that they all just chase the ball instead of man marking, and, they all want to take at least one person on before passing!
As they all spoke only Spanish and I only know how to ask for beer and the bog in Spanish, communication levels were down to grunts & moans, so I was unable to educate them in the tactics of the game! Lol.
I did try to explain to them that I was a symbol of English skill and fitness and that heavy breathing, sweating, limping, wheezing, mouth dribbling and rubbery legs were all important parts of the English game! I'm not sure they were convinced! And remember, I had just walked the Inca Trail!!
After the match we headed back to the hostel where I collapsed on the bed for an hour!
At no point was anyone allowed to mention the Forest score!! I think we are seriously heading down now, but I am still getting a season ticket next year!
In the afternoon we started packing our bags. We leave Peru tomorrow and head back to La Paz. We have really enjoyed our time in Peru, the Reed Islands, Cusco, Incan ruins and of course the Inca Trail with Machu Picchu, have made it all a fantastic experience. So did our big night out in Cusco with Rod and Helen!
This evening we headed to a restaurant called Sumaq Misky. Here, Lorna had an Alpaca fillet steak and I had roasted guinea pig with stuffed chilli's - it was lovely. The guinea pig actually comes out whole on the plate - head, ears, little feet and all!! There's not much meat on them but with the stuffed chilli's and the roast potatoes, it was really filling.
As an added bonus, you also get a free shot of Sambuca with it - marvellous!
We spent a fair bit of time in the restaurant with a beer and some wine before we headed back to the hostel for the night. It was a nice enjoyable evening.
