This morning we had breakfast in the hostel at about 11am (they serve breakfast until 1pm).
Today was going to be a booking and shopping day.
First stop was Inca Reservations to confirm all the details for the Inca Trail on Monday. We had a good one hour session discussing everything we are doing and all the things we need. This is normally done the night before, but in a group, so this was better as it was more personal.
Next we walked to the bus terminal which was on the other side of town. This was further than anticipated due to the Lonely Liar's poor distance evaluation. However, we finally made it and booked our bus back to La Paz for Sunday the 15th March. It's an overnight bus and will probably take about 12 hours.
We then found a big indoor market off a side street and spent a good couple of hours looking around the stalls. Lorna was after a bag and a jumper, but only came away with a water bottle holder!!
I, on the otherhand, was far more productive (as expected I suppose).
First thing I bought was a Cusco football shirt. There were four reasons for this purchase as shown below :
Firstly, it was red, and being a true Forest supporter, any connections will do.
Secondly, it was the shirt for the local team. This is the loyal way to do things.
Thirdly, it has a faintly printed image of Machu Picchu in the shirt. This looks pretty cool and is also symbolic of the place we will soon be visiting.
Finally, and probably most importantly, the team shirt sponsors are Cusquena - the name of the local beer that I am currently launching down my throat like it's going out of fashion.
So, you see, a most worthwhile purchase.
My second display of ridiculous spending was on a chess set which had loads of Incan figures as the pieces. It looks really good, I just need to learn how to play chess properly now. No doubt this will turn into another dust collector!
My final piece of uncontrollable bank balance reduction was on a Granddad jumper to keep me warm at night on the Inca Trail - yes, it's definitely a jumper you would get your Granddad for Christmas!! There will be no photo evidence of this piece of clothing if I can help it.
I wonder if grumpy old man syndrome will kick in!!
Our final bit of spending today occurred at the local supermarket to pick up a few toiletries and bits & pieces. It was then back to the hostel as it was getting dark.
Tonight is chilli night at the hostel, so we have decided to eat here. The thing was DAMN HOT!!! It was fantastic. Needed a few beers to wash it down!!
Still no sign of Stella anywhere - sorry Trev!
