Having trouble uploading the photos to the blog at the moment. The internet in the hostel is free, but dead slow. Might have to wait until Melbourne before I get them all uploaded.
Today we decided to have a bit of a cultural walk around Adelaide and pop to a couple of museums.
On the way, we checked out the Bus station so we know where to go for our bus to Melbourne on Monday. Amazingly, the bus station was full of....buses! Who would have thought it?!
We then walked by a church, which is supposed to be the oldest church in South Australia! It didn't look that old, must have had a paint job. Funny thing, the church was closed! Looks like God decided to have the day off. Wonder what he does on his day off. Maybe a bit of surfing, bit of gardening, or does he just go on the lash all day!!
First museum we got to was the Migration Museum - not the Migraine Museum like Lorna thought! Can you imagine that, a museum full of people with migraines!! I suppose they would have an Anadin display as well, and maybe an Aspirin or two! As it happens, it was the 'Migration' museum, all about people that have emigrated to Australia from across the World. Apparently, Adelaide (and South Australia as a whole) was a convict free zone, so emigrating here was quite popular. To be fair, there were quite a lot of interesting stories in the museum. Maybe I am turning into some sort of geek! I think all these museums are starting to have an adverse affect on me!
It was about lunchtime by the time we got out the Migration Museum and Lorna was beginning to whimper at the side of me. So we headed to the botanical gardens to have our picnic lunch in the sunshine. The gardens were very relaxing and quiet, so we were able to chill out with our lunch - that's confirms it! I even like gardens as well as museums! I am officially the campest Englishman in Oz!! Help me!! I need beer and steak and Hooters!!!
After lunch with the pansies, we went to the South Australia Museum. This was an OK museum but not as good as the ones in New Zealand. They had loads of good Aboriginal artifacts though which were quite interesting. Lorna found herself giggling at a carving of a naked aboriginal! She can be so childish - not like the mature person that I am!!
There was also an Animal Zone which was OK. We felt quite at home here as there were loads of monkey's and ape's!! It was like having the whole Davies family around us!!
We decided to see if we could name a song for all the animals we saw (who's childish now Simon?).
We had 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight', 'Tiger Feet', 'Bear Necessities', 'Funky Gibbon', 'Nelly the Elephant' (I hope you are singing along to all these!!!) - then it got a bit stupid!!
After the museum, we did a bit of food shopping (Lorna's highlight) and went back to the hostel. The Hostel we are staying at is quite nice actually. People here are pretty good as well. I have already arranged to watch the football at a local bar on Saturday (well Sunday morning actually) with some of them. Premiership games are on here at 10.45pm, 1.30am and 3.45am - should be a good night.
Just need to convince Lorna now.
