We decided to get off our lazy backsides and have a walk round the City today.

We walked up from our hostel to Sienna Marina. This place stunk of money and two pezzie backpackers certainly looked out of place here. The restaurants tables all had tablecloths and shiny cutlery - not like our usual pasta stained tables and sticky knives & forks!!

After a few funny looks, including people who were worried we might start squatters rights on their boats, we moved on. We came across a walkway called 'Mrs McQuaries Bush Walk'!!.......This gave me about 10 minutes of childish humour, of which Lorna seemed unimpressed!

Anyway, this bush walk takes you all along the harbour front round to a place called 'Mrs McQuaries Chair'. It's a really nice walk and it was a fantastically sunny day as well. We couldn't actually find a chair when we looked, but there was something that looked like a bean bag - although that may have just have been dumped there!
We did get some great views of the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House from here.

Next we walked by Circular Quay to the Botanical gardens and the Sydney Opera House. After a few photo moments and the odd comedy comment about 'protruding peaks' and 'hairless domes', we dropped under a tree in the gardens for our lunch picnic.
We had a light sabre fight with each other in the gardens - although, as we didn't actually have any light sabres, we used raw carrots instead - they didn't quite have the same effect!

After our inter-galactical root vegetable battle, we continued our walk by Dawes Point and under the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Got to say, close up, the bridge is a bit of a steel monstrosity, but still a huge Sydney icon.

We then walked through Darling Harbour, well not actually THROUGH the harbour, more around the edge of it of course. It's quite a popular area with quite a lot of free entertainment going off. We will probably come and spend a bit more time down here when we come back to Sydney at the end of the month.

Final destination of the walk was Sydney's version of Hyde Park. It's a nice park to chill in and is where most of the entertainment will be on Australia Day on the 26th. We shall see.
We had a walk through the park before heading back to our hostel.

After dinner we headed off to 'The Bourbon' for a couple of hours of $3 drinks. We got chatting to a Sydneysider who was originally from Ipswich. He had arrived here via Thailand!
My assumptions about our new sad, old, grey-haired, Englishman were confirmed when he mentioned his 'Thai Bride' was waiting for him at home. Nothing stereotypical about this is there!!

We got back to the hostel for 9.30pm, just in time to join others from the hostel on the way to the 'Soho Bar'. We were given a free drink here on arrival. We then had some vouchers for another free drink - cool. Next we headed off to the 'World Bar' and used some more vouchers for free drinks!! We just couldn't spend any money tonight!
The 'World Bar' was just like the one in Queenstown, New Zealand, including the teapot cocktails.

We've got some more free drinks vouchers for when we come back in a fortnight - good stuff. That's the first New Years Resolution smashed!!

Lorna was a bit merry by the end of the night!
