We didn't really want to leave our Airlie Beach site this morning as we have enjoyed acting like kids, however, we need to keep to some sort of schedule so that we make it to Sydney for the 23rd.

We set off a bit later this morning to make sure all alcohol was out the system and headed off for Mackay. We found a van park near town called Central Tourist Park. It looks like it's run by drug addicts and drunks, but it was cheap and we fitted in pretty well.

A walk into town revealed another free lagoon next to the river (really good idea these free lagoon's). It wasn't as good as Airlie's but it was still big and had a small slide. We abused this later.

We had a wander into town first and realised everything was shut as it was Sunday. What scared us the most was that the pubs shut on Sunday's too here!!!
All down the main street there was some sort of flea market going on and there was some strange guy sat in the middle of the roundabout with loudspeakers, playing a guitar and singing merrily along! A slightly freaky town we thought. We decided it best not to look any of the locals in the eye (and yes, some of them only had one eye!), in case we became one of them! (one of the locals that is, not one of their eyes!).

We decided to go back to the lagoon area and we had lunch overlooking the river. It was then into the lagoon to act like 8 year olds again for a while - wicked!

Later in the afternoon we went back to the van park and sat outside our van having dinner and a beer as the sun went down - most tranquil!

We have decided to stay only one night in Mackay (if we can get out), but we are going to spend some time in the morning back at the lagoon before we head off to Rockhampton.
Actually, talking of which, I was looking at the map for our travels tomorrow and found a place near Brisbane called 'Coominya', which is pronounced 'Cum-in-ya' - (you know where this is going don't you?). Anyway, I kid you not, this place is on a dam at the mouth of the river which feeds Lake Wivenhoe - yes you guessed it, it's known as 'Coominya Mouth'!! You couldn't make this stuff up!!
