On the way, we first stopped off in a place called Atherton. We had a quick walk through town, but it's mainly just a stop off point on the way through the Tablelands. (It's like a combination of rainforest, waterfalls and the Lake District).
Next place we went through was Yungaburra - this is definitely a one family town - everyone had a beard, even the women, kids and hamsters!!
We then arrived at Lake Barrine. This is a big crater lake. We decided to do the free 6km rainforest walk which takes you round the entire crater lake. This was a really nice walk in what was sometimes quite dense forest. We got to see some Cassowaries (look like turkey's) and some Musky Kangaroo Rat's. Fortunately we were spared a visit from any croc's.
I had my Forest top on, so Forest were in the Forest - actually, we all know that Forest are actually in the sh*t - bottom of the league, can't beat 10 men and score own goals - are we sacking him yet!?
I also tried to swing from a vine in the forest - it snapped and I fell very ungraciously. Must have been a weak vine - good job there wasn't a snake attached!
Next stop was Lake Eacham which is also a crater lake. Here we decided to have lunch. Lorna had some of her tuna & pasta bake that she had prepared earlier (she got her Blue Peter Badge for it). I knocked up some hot chicken cobs. It's the beauty of driving round with your kitchen attached that you can just knock up some lunch when needed.
We then sat and chilled overlooking the lake after lunch. Really nice and peaceful here.
We then went on to Malanda and checked in at Malanda Falls Caravan Park. The site is right next to the Malanda Falls so we had a wander down. The falls aren't very big, but they have a nice swimming hole at the bottom. Although the water was freezing, we jumped in and had a bit of a swim. It was very refreshing on a hot & humid day. We got talking to a local guide and he was saying that this area of Australia was having an unusual heatwave at the moment. No wonder it's been so hot everywhere we've been. If it's not hot enough in Oz, we have to have a blummin' heatwave as well!!
After cooling off we had a trip into Malanda town for an hour. There's not much happening here, but we did go and check out some Christmas decorations for the van though. Lorna won't let me buy any until December the 1st. I 'm not allowed to play Christmas music until then either - Bah Humbug! She became a little more involved when we started looking at chocolate advent calendars though!! We can't buy these until the 1st either as the chocolate will melt anyway.
We then went back to the campsite. It was then time for a haircut. We had bought some clippers the other day and Lorna decided today was the day to try them out on me!! When she was armed with clippers and scissors, she looked quite evil, yet satisfyingly happy!! I was afraid! - although there wasn't that much damage she could do to my hair, or should I say lack of hair!
As it happens, she did a really good job. I think Trev might be sacked!! I think I am going to have a perm next time!
It was then my turn to cook. I rustled us up chicken, BBQ sauce, bacon and melted cheese, with jacket potatoes and salad - and, it was actually edible! We just have to see what toilet effect it has tomorrow!!
