Well, it's finally time to leave New Zealand. We have both had an awesome time whilst here. All the activities including sky diving, caving, white water rafting, canyon swinging, luging, hiking Milford Track - the list is endless - all have been a fantastic experience. We have also made some good friends whilst travelling the North & South Islands and hopefully we will get the chance to catch up with some of them again.
Anyway, our shuttle to the airport arrived at 12.30 and off we went. First port of call at the airport.......Duty Free of course! We are allowed 2.25 litres of any spirit each into Oz. As we has a 10% discount voucher from a magazine Lorna had picked up, we decided to exploit it. However, as we walked around the Duty Free shop pondering over our purchases, one of the shop assistants came up and said "if you buy 2 litres each I will give you 20% off!". Now, as we were buying 2 litres each anyway and we were only going to get 10% off, we took the delightful young lady up on her deal. We ended up with 2 bottles of Smirnoff Vodka, 1 bottle of Martini and 2 bottles of Black Sambuca, all for less than £30!!! Groovy.
After explaining our alcohol problem to customs officials, we finally set sail across the skies at about 3.30pm. Not much else to say really. We landed at Sydney, swapped planes for Cairns and arrived in North Queensland at about 9.30pm.
We were booked in at Calypso Inn which had been recommended by Lisa & Webby who had been before. Calypso actually do free airport pick-up until 10pm, so we just managed to bag that as well.
Calypso itself is pretty cool actually. Because we had booked early we got a good price on a double room, with air-con for two nights. Facilities included a swimming pool, bar, restaurant, pool table, darts and large screen TV. It was just like a mini resort. We enjoyed our time here. They even did a free courtesy bus to and from the pubs in town!
