Me and Craig were up at 7am so we could watch the England match. What is it with England's first half performances? At least they managed to wrap up another victory away from home. That's 12 points out of 12 now - not bad.
At 8am we were off to Rotorua to do some white water rafting. This was brilliant. We had three waterfalls to go down and one was 7 METRES TALL!!! The run was a grade 5 rapids and was great. The scenery was also beautiful along this river, but you didn't get too much chance to look at it. When we hit the big waterfall, we only just stayed in the raft. We ended up being completely vertical going down, then the water flipped us up and we were completely vertical facing the other way up!! (See the photo's, they're amazing). I'm not sure how we stayed in, but we did nearly lose our instructor off the back! This was a great experience and a brill laugh.
After drying off, we jumped back on the bus to head to Taupo. We stopped off on the way at Waiotapu (which means sacred water) to see the boiling mud caused by the geothermal activity. At one point there was a really large blow out and the mud hit me from about 10 metres away!! It was bloody hot, but no damage done.
We then stopped off at Huka Falls - not Hooker Falls! There wasn't loads of prostitutes just falling on their backs along the roadside!! This is apparently New Zealand's most photographed attraction. This is a massive flow of water that you would never survive if you went down in it. It really is an amazing piece of nature.
We finally made it to Taupo and stopped at the Taupo Urban Retreat. We shared a four bed dorm with Craig & Katie. Unfortunately our sky diving got cancelled due to poor conditions, but to be fair, we were knackered anyway. We went and had an afternoon nap instead.
Later on we had a few beers in the hostel bar before our little group decided we would head into town for a few jars. We bumped into the sky diving owner here and he booked us in for 1pm tomorrow - weather permitting. How stupid to book something like that when you've had a drink in a bar!! We then headed to town.
Our group was made up of Craig, Katie, Claire & Clare from Scotland, Laura, Sandri & Jennifer from South Africa and the two Stray staff, Nat & Jimmy. We headed off to Mulligans first and played International Table Football - England won of course! We then headed off to the Element Bar until 2am and enjoyed party time - cracking night out. We have got a lie in tomorrow so all is well.....
