A Looooong journey to Langkawi!

Not much to report today except a damn long journey to Langkawi.
First leg was a 5 hour minivan drive to Hat Yai. Sat chatting to a couple (Neil & Louise) from Chester who we had seen in the pub the other day watching the Liverpool match. Good conversation that made the time go a lot quicker.
Neil & Louise got out at Hat Yai, whilst Lorna & I joined the 2nd minivan to take the next 2 and a half hours to Satun. On this journey we got chatting to Dave, a Canadian on his way to the docks in Langkawi to meet his Dad who he'd only seen once in the last 3 years! Sad thing was, when we got to Satun harbour, he realised that he had lost his passport, and this was the last ferry of the day!! He was pretty upset, but someone gave him a lift to the Police station & immigration, but he didn't make it back in time for the ferry. Lets hope he makes it in the morning!
We did make the ferry - well we didn't actually make the ferry. If we did, we would have been pretty rich. No, we boarded the ferry for our 1 and a half hour Nemesis ride to Langkawi! I swear, we nearly rolled over at least three times, the water was so rough!! The waves were crashing up on the sides of the ferry! I found it funny and exciting, Lorna on the otherhand, wasn't as impressed!
We did survive the aquatic adventure and finally arrived on the Island. We managed to find a wandering German and his new Thai girlfriend, so we bundled them in a taxi so that it would make the transfer to Cenang Beach cheaper - we are not sure if they even wanted to go, but they seemed happy enough!
It seemed that we had been dropped off in a ghost town. We did find out why later. Everywhere seemed boarded up and closed - and it was raining a little. We hadn't got any digs booked, so I went for a scout. Found the AB Motel open with some cheap rooms so we bagged one. Our intention was to stop for 4 nights, but that was to change later. Room was fine though and was a farts stench away from the beach. We even had our own little veranda in front of our chalet. It was just like being in Trev's log cabin!
After dumping our gear, we managed to find a place that was open called the Red Tomato Garden Restaurant. We had a couple of pasta dishes here and they were lovely, and there was loads of it as well! It was run by a German lady, but you can't have everything - only kidding, she was really nice actually and we will probably be back for lunch tomorrow.
After dinner, we talk a walk down the only street and then headed back to our little chalet type thing. I think the journey had caught up with us as we just crashed to bed.
