We arrived into Surat Thani at around 6am and had to hang around until 7.30am before transferring to a local bus. This bus took us to the edge of Phuket Island, arriving at about 2.30pm. Here we jumped into an air con mini-van and finally arrived at our guesthouse in Patong Bay at 3pm. That's a good 20 hour journey and we were shattered.
Then we got to our guesthouse called "Hillside". It's just on the outskirts of the bay area. About a 10 minute walk to the beach and only 5 minutes to all the bars and restaurants. This was perfect because we avoided all the noise.

Now the guesthouse itself - amazing! It's only been open 2 months, but it is not a hostel or a guesthouse, it is more like a hotel. I think it was on Hostelworld because it is new and they need to generate some early custom. Thing is, we got a deal on this and are only paying THB 300 a night (about £5), but listen to what we got in the room Hillside Guesthouse
Hillside Guesthouse
. Hot shower, balcony, air con, kettle, fridge, cable tv, safe, DVD player in room, free DVD rental, free internet and it had a huge bed in a massive room! I would expect to pay at least THB 1800 for this, and there was also a swimming pool! Everything is really clean as well, because it's new, and there's is daily maid service. These are all luxuries for a backpacker - we might live here!

Anyway, as we hadn't eaten all day, we got showered and changed and went for a walk into the town. We found a curry house and basically stuffed ourselves stupid! As we had a fridge, we went to the 7-11 to grab some beers to stock it up - well, it's only polite to!
The tiredness was starting to kick in so we went back to the palatial room and borrowed the DVD "21" to watch. Lorna then fell asleep whilst I watched "Die Hard" on tv, followed by the Ryder Cup.

Watching the golf, I realised that the American supporters were up to their usual tricks - cheering if Europe made a mistake and staying deathly silent when Europe played a good shot! I'm all for supporting your own team - but there's this word called "respect" which is obviously missing from the American sporting dictionary!
Rant over....I went to sleep...
