After yet another bacon baguette breakfast , we decided to hire some push bikes and go for a bit of a ride. We went for the cheapest bikes we could, but this meant I had to have a girls bike!! It even had a blinkin' basket on the front of it!! If people saw me on this in Blidworth, I would be torched to death - and probably have some sort of root vegetable inserted where the sun don't shine!! (As you can tell, all my true friends are from Blidworth!!)
Back to the day, we cycled for only about 10km and ended up at Poukham Cave. We had cycled in our flip-flops so it was too difficult to climb up to the cave - although we did climb for about 10mins. We did actually speak to some people who had been inside and they said it wasn't up to much anyway. I think it's going to be difficult for any caves to beat the ones in Halong Bay though.
Next to the cave, there was a nice lagoon and a couple of swings, so we decided to jump in and cool off. There was only one other couple in the lagoon so it wasn't overcrowded or anything. The couple themselves were called Vinnie & Irma and they were from Holland Whiskey Bucket Time
Whiskey Bucket Time
. They were also travelling for a year (or more) so it was good to exchange stories of our treks so far - their English was very good, our Dutch was non-existent!
Vinnie is an FC Utrecht fan, and he had heard of the mighty Forest of course. He said that when they get to England on their travels, I must take him to a Forest match! I assured him that I would not wish that on my worst enemy, never mind an innocent Dutchman!!
We spent a good couple of hours laughing and joking in the lagoon before we all cycled back to town together. We arranged to meet them later on for dinner, so for now we grabbed a chicken baguette and went back to the guesthouse for a chill.
We then met Vinnie & Irma at the Xayoh café where I had red curry chicken and Lorna had chicken phat tai - very nice. We then took them on a bit of a pub crawl because they said they were drinkers - when will people learn not to try and keep up with the Vickers duo when it comes to pub crawls!?! By the time we got to Jaidees, they were both slaughtered. It was mainly due to the free shots of whiskey you get at each bar. We have also got to know the Irish guy who runs Jaidees, so when we arrived there, he just gave me a full bottle of whiskey for us all and just told me to "shot away"!! Deathly words young man! We didn't leave until...well, god knows when!!
I do know that I must have been drunk with Vinnie though, because we were discussing the prospect of Forest v Utrecht in the Champions League in two years time!! God knows what we were drinking to warp our minds into that sort of insane conversation!!
A good night was had though. We also met up with some people who went tubing the other day and the plan was made to go again tomorrow. We also met Steve & Jay (girl), who had just arrived in Vang Vieng and invited them to come along with our group. Vinnie & Irma also said they'd come - should be a good day.
Then it all got a bit blurry........
