First thing someone told me this morning was that it was American Independence Day......?...?....?......I'm an Englishman and I'm in China, who cares!! The acronym for it is A.I.D. - the irony! Oooops, there goes the Anglo-American Treaty up in smoke! I think we should create some sort of Mansfield Independence Day, let's say, every Saturday. Everyone can get p**sed and light fires - mind you, I suppose with the burnt out cars you see in Mansfield on Sunday mornings, it looks like this happens already!
Anyway, back to the blog, me, Lorna & Kev went to the zoo today (we ditched the other two, yawn). It was about 3 quid in a taxi and about £2.50 to get in, so pretty good value really. Of course, one of the highlights was seeing the Panda's, but because it was so hot they were in their indoor pens. (Maybe we will get to see them outside at Ocean Park in Hong Kong). I have also discovered that Lorna has a sadistic streak in her Turtle
Turtle
. She couldn't tear herself away from the snake pits where the snakes were feeding on live mice! These were really cute little pet mice, but Lorna was obsessed with watching them being swallowed whole, whikst still alive!!
The list of animals we got to see included Tigers, Leopards, Cheetahs, Jaguars, Hippos, Rhinos, Giraffes, Elephants, Zebras, Gorrillas, Chimps, Ostriches, Emus, all sorts of birds, Wolves, Reptiles...the list goes on. When we got to the Lions, we all broke out into "In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion sleeps tonight - ooooo eeeeee, ooooo eeee umm bummberwaaaay" to the amusement of the locals, and probably the lions actually! It was a really good three or so hours we spent in the zoo and was really enjoyable.
Then came defining moment of the day....we found a Subway!! Not the train & track type, oh no, I mean the Footlong Subway Melt with Double Cheese type!! God it was good!
After the almost sexual pleasures of a footlong in the mouth, we ventured off to the Shanghai Museum. It was free to get in, but there was a massive queue with no shade. We decided to give this a miss until next week. We crossed the road to the Urban Planning Exhibition which gives an insight into Shanghai in 2020. It's 30 Yuan to get in, but doesn't really do much for me to be fair.

We then took a leisurely walk back along The Bund to the Hotel.
Tonight we are being joined by another group of 7 people to go to Yellow Mountain. We will call these Team C....
Team C consisted of the following :
Sarah & Karen from Australia
Rebecca (USA) & Richard (Australia)
Maddy from Australia
Gina & her Mum, Lynn, from Canada

They seem like a decent group and we will be withh them for the next 5 days.
