Last night in the bar we were joined by another Geckos Tour that will be joining us on the Yangtze River cruise.
These are now known as Team B (that's you Kenny!).
Team B consists of Duncan, Kathy & Emma (English), Adrian & Brooke (Aussie), Eoin (Irish), Nicole (German) and Miguel (Ecuadorian). Funny thing about Miguel is that he walked into a travel agents in Australia to book a holiday to Mexico and ended up in China!! That travel agent lady must have an awesome sales technique!
This morning we got a taxi to our Chinese tourist boat that would be taking us along the Yangtze River. We were booked in 1st class apparently, mmmmm, although to be fair, the rooms aren't that bad at all.
This is quite a chilled out cruise really. We spent most of the time on deck watching the scenery and playing Mahjong - this has become an addiction! The 3 Gorges Dam Lock
The 3 Gorges Dam Lock
! We went past a small dam and through a small lock before we got to the Three Gorges Dam. This first lock was a test one to see if China could actually go forwward and build the main 3GD. When you get to the 3GD there are FIVE locks to go through one after the other. This took a total of 3 hours to complete and raised us about 100 metres! It really is an awesome piece of engineering. The dam itself is huge and is expected to be finished next year, raising the water level by another 10 metres.
The evening itself was pretty uneventful mainly because people were still recovering from last night. However, it was really chilled just sat on deck have a beer, as we cruise along the river through the night. And, the beer was only 8 Yuan for a large bottle! (about 60 pence!). Sweet.
