Horses and Courses
Horses and Courses
LEXINGTON ROCKS!!!  (I may be exaggerating)

Decided I would give Lexington another try, but because of the lack of transport and location of things, I had to pay someone to do it for me.

Lexington's main thing is horses.  Its home to the Kentucky Horse Farm, racetrack, a gazillion horse farms, oat processing plants, and glue factories (I'm kidding with that last one).  So I had a mini-bus tour of some of the attractions.

The first one was Keeneland race course.  It was huge.  Weird thing is, there's a big race on today, some horse called Big Brown is on track to win the triple which hasn't been done in years, but even though the race wasn't at Keeneland there were still loads of people there to watch it and place bets.  Turns out, you don't have betting shops in America you have to go to the track.  My response:  jeez, where do all your old men go to smoke?!

Then we went to such a cute place called 'Old Friends'.  Normally old race horses who can't stud get euthanised even if they're healthy.  This guy in Lexington buys them and just takes care of them, and without the intention to ever rehabilitate, re-race or stud a horse like some other sanctuaries.  The owner actually showed us round and he was such a lovely guy who clearly loved horses.  My favourite was this little one called Silver Charm who gave him kisses and played football.  Kate would have stolen him for her pygmy army!

Then we went to a working horse farm to look at the studs.  Here we had a very "interesting" talk on the studding process, complete with all it's equipment.  Mmm, nice.  Also saw some very cute foals. Horses and Courses

All this was in the beautiful Kentucky countryside with rolling hills (and I mean rolling), white picket fence, and barns bigger than houses.  All where Seabiscuit and Dreamer were filmed.

OK, so maybe me and Lexington got off to a bad start, and maybe it does have some nice things to offer.  But it's not my best buddy yet!

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude!
(Taking inspiration from your Turtle-watching...which I know was a while ago now but I've only just looked at your entries....bad friend me)
Anywho - just wanted to say: Oh my god you are the bravest person EVER!!! You're doing so much and going to so many places, I am superduper impressed. Sure I went away for a year, but that was to NZ which is the least scariest place I can imagine!
Can't wait to hear more about your adventures (am saving the photos for the edited selection!!) and am v jealous of you : )
