Hola!

We left London Heathrow at 6.05pm on Monday evening. We arrived in Santiago 21 hours later! The length of the journey really reminded us of how far away we are from home - This is no idle hop on an EasyJet. Instead we find ourselves on a 4000 km long strip of land that clings to the Pacific Coast on one side with the Andes on the other.

About Chile:
- Chile is never wider than 90 miles from top to tail.
- It's capital, Santiago sits bang in the middle of the country and is home to over 1/3 of the country's entire poplulation (15.8 m).
- There are more buses in Santiago than there are people (well that's what it feels like) On top of San Cristobal overlooking Santiago

.
- It's not cheap (Dan managed to buy a bottle of Grolsch - that famous Chilean beer - for 3 pounds 50).
- In Santiago it's 33 celsius in the shade (sorry about that guys).
- There's so much traffic that there's a dense smog hovering over the city (see photo).

So far we've been quite lazy - having wanders around the city, sleeping lots and teaching Dan Spanish (he can say about 25 words now - none of which make a decent sentence).
We're off to the South tomorrow. Can't believe we've got another 4 hour flight to do. Catch you all later.
