Today we got up earlier to avoid as much sun as possible. We packed everything and were walking down the Canyon at 8 a.m. with quite a few other hikers.

We made it down to the Plateau Point (the lowest point recommended to walk if you plan to walk up again on the same day) in 3 hours and walked up in 5 hours, with a few rests and lunch in between.

It was tough and hot but we maintained a relaxed rythmn and enjoyed every moment of it. Would we do it again? Not really. Been there, done that! In total we walked 12.2 miles (just under 20 kms) in 9.5 hours and were very glad when we sat in the car at the top!

A shower was necessary so we drove out of the national park and down to Williams which is about 30 miles away. We checked into a Motel 6 (nearly full given it was Saturday so we were lucky to get the last double room...although it was a smoker room and slighly stuffy...but given our tiredness, perfect).

We had an endless shower and then went out for a rewarding dinner. We found out when walking around the small town of Williams (only 2 long streets) that it is actually on Route 66 (the old road that crossed US) and was therefore full of places where we could enjoy the old dinner styled restaurant. We of course went to "Cafe 66" where we engulfed fajitas and enjoyed their owned brewed beer. Delicious! Veronika finished with a tasty Butter Peacan Shake...yummy.

We didn't even turn the TV on...the moment we touched the pillow in the room, we fell asleep!
