Short summary as we have little time today:
- was cold morning. Either we are used to the cold or better prepared now
- we walked to the Sequoia area and visited the General Sherman Tree which is 2,500 years old and the largest in the world by wood volume. It was packed with tourists
- We initially planned to camp at Sequoia another night but after reading newspaper and listening to radio we decided to go to motel given the winds were going to be very strong and there was potential of snow at certain heights...both for which we are not prepared.
- we drove onto Bakersfield which was the closest larger town (72 miles) and thought as usual that there would be no problem to get a room with our vouchers given it is in the middle of no where. Wrong! Again we hit a place with an event...this time its the "hot rod" weekend (for those of you that don't know...its strange, noisy and large racing cars which draw large crowds here...), so we were lucky to get the last, last room in the Motel 6 (the handicap one) for a good price after trying several other motels which were packed.
