Where I stayed
The Broadway Manor Inn - $101. Very nice old. No hot water
surprise for her birthday from Marcos: He has carried a wooden Sting Ray
(big "flying" fish) all the way from Placencia in Belize!! Vero had set
her heart on it when in Placencia, because it is very lovely woodcraft,
but was sure that it is too expensive and too heavy to carry with us!
So it was a fantastic surprise!
we started our way to San Franscico, but not without stopping for a
wonderful and hearty breakfast at an Italian cafeteria in Davis, right
next to the University of California Davis
(pancakes, French toast, bacon, eggs, coffee) that we would not eat
again until the evening!
In San Francisco itself we tried to get
another one of those voucher deals. Good thing was, that we got lost
first, and by chance passed the first of those adverstised voucher
motels, and it was in a very bad area, plus it had the annual Leather
and Fetish Fair right next to it, so we did not really want to spend
Vero's birthday there! We were very tempted to take photos though of
that crowd! All leather except in the private parts...
that made us appreciate more the motel we found right in the center, in
a very nice neighborhood (you guys notice my American spelling here?)
We ended up paying 100 bucks a night, and learnt later that this was
indeed a very good deal for SF. The room was lovely and clean, so later
in the day we decided to stay 2 nights.
So, in we checked and
off we went for a 4 hour walking through San Francisco. We looooved
it!! The sun was shining, and we strolled down to Fisherman's Wharf.
The FW is a bit tacky, but the area around Ghirandelli Place is very
nice, and Vero could indulge in her birthday cake in form of a lovely
cupcake. At Fisherman's Wharf we got scared by a local celebrity: A man
sitting behind a "bush", and jumping out to scare people. He did make
us jump and laugh, and all the tourists around laughed at us. Then he
wants money for the scare. Actually, just the next day the San
Francisco newspaper had an article on him!
So, finally being at
the seaside again, we decided to treat us with some Sushi!!! To keep
the costs at an affordable level, we decided to get a takeaway Sushi,
as it needed to be washed down with a Californian White
walked to the Japanese Center. We got Sushi and wine in a Japanese
store and walked back the ten blocks to the hotel.....only to learn the
next day that there was a Sushi bar just around the block...but hey,
that is what our SF trip was all about: Walk walk walk...
So, we prepared our feast in the room, had the chilled wine and indulged in Sushi and TV.
What a prefect birthday!!!
