Where I stayed
Coolidge Campground - $18, excellent
In our base camp we had two neighbours, on the East a couple from New Jersey. They politely came to us in the morning to excuse themselves for any noise or barking their six month puppy had made during the night or early morning (a beautiful dog by the way).
On the West side, a couple with a young girl who kept screaming and crying. Nothing from the West side!
In any case and just to keep all our brownie points, none of them disturbed us. It just reminded us how our friend Don keeps telling us how "parents don't hear their children...they have adapted"
Anyway, back to travelling stories. Its cloudy today, and the local radio did advise (in between farm machinery adverts) that we will see a couple of rain showers during the afternoon and perhaps at night. So given than useful information we decided to take off and do a good long hike before lunch and the rains.
Our bodies are nearly fully restored after a good nights rest, and the new sleeping bags do help. We actually still use the old ones but inserted in the new ones...Quality sleep! It also helps that the air matress we have does not deflate anymore. For a couple of nights we thought it was punctured, but in reality we just had not closed the valve correctly and so kept finding ourselves at ground level around 3 a.m.
The hike was just a 3 mile one but sufficient to exercise a bit and entertain us fully for four hours in the forrests. The hike is called Lovers Leap as an Indian couple was supposed to have jumped from there as they were so in love...or something like that.
The change of colours related to early autumn is just amazing. We hope the photographs reflect it.
Back to base camp, and as predicted by Farmers Radio....it started pouring down just after lunch. Luckily we have the car next to the camp for a good siesta, reading, listening to an audio book (Ken Folliet) or playing the newly aquired electronic Sudoku machine (now that is addictive!).
