Imagine our disappointment when we arrived at Charleston and discovered that the original Charleston was composed by a musician from New Jersey. "That ain't just fair"! We were exepecting everyone to have a funny walk and be dancing around. Shame!
In any case...Charleston was a big surprise. After St Augustine and Savannah it was difficult to beat the colonial type visit, but believe us - Charleston beats the other two by mile and a half. The old quarters are just house after house of preserved colonial mansions and parks. What a lovely walk.
We presume that the cost of living in that area must be sky high given the niceties and luxuries that we observed, and especially the type of shops - small antique or art galeries and similar.

We also went into the local Charleston Co. library which was way beyond anything we have seen in Europe. Everything is a paradise for readers or computer users (and everything for free folks!). Its about time Europe gets itself organised and has some quality libraries with free wi-fi and internet connection. "Throw them Spectrums away guys!"

After lunch we continued our trip towards the Great Smokey Mountains in North Carolina. We stopped a few miles away in a Motel 6. Just before arriving there, and with "the sun battling with the moon" (as we heard on a TV documentary...i.e. sunset!) we thought we were lost or had passed our exit. We stopped to read the map and 2 minutes later a huge truck also stopped and said that he saw us reading the map and whether we needed help...

He kindly pointed us in the right direction and told us to have a great evening. Great Southern friendliness!

Cheerio for now.
