After a half day of travel we arrived in Léon, pesumably on of the gemstones of Nicaragua, at least for those who like churches. For those who don´t its and overvalued town, where the colonial atmosphere is long gone, and tonnes of paint, and police are necessary to make this even an "acceptable" tourist spot.

Of course, we are biased being European and knowing towns of 10 inhabitants older than Leon.

Anyway, its a small place so we can walk around and keep recovering of the strong stomach bug which attacked us some days ago. There are plenty of restaurants and murals to have a glimpse at civil war history (although some of them seem a bit recent and therefore not as original).

The cathedral itself was a big flop in our dissappointment rater. It is supposed to be one of the largest of latin america, but it just looks like a small rectangular church. Although history has it that its arquitecture is such to resist earthquakes, and has survived many a war. Leon was a strong point in the civil wars and heavily damaged.

As with all these great touristic destinations...everything is closed on Sunday (museums, tourist office, etc) so we will do some more investigation tomorrow.
