The visit included several German built buildings as the church in the picture - the German influence here is very strong and the pride of the descendants even more.
We strolled around the Lake of Petrohue (which means Deep Place) and develops into strong rivers and white waters. Our closest colleagues for the day where the "tabanos" (horse flies) which exclusively fly around in December and January close to lakes. Although they are not at all dangerous and do not bite, they have the size of a human thumb and do buzz around quite a lot in their hundreds. Apparently they are strongly attracted by dark colours only
Photos include the Saltos de Petrohue waterfalls and our ascent to the Osorno Volcano, one of the three active ones in the area of the Lakes. We managed to walk our way up to just over 1.800 metres height where there is still quite a lot of snow. We practice a special type of downhill skiing...with walking boots and hardly any sliding...enjoy it.
The evening has finished with another "Summer Concert" in Puerto Varas...this time by a ultra modern hard rock band, closely observed by the Carabineros (Chilean Police).
