Temuco is not much of a place - more of a town to stop and run the next day. Our first problem was that the hostel we were going to stay at had closed down...something that seems to be occurring quite often with our guide book.
We have personally taken the task of trying to avoid any hotel or hostel that appears on the book to avoid tourist types (which we are also...but as all tourists we consider ourselves "different"). However the book is always a good starting point to find the streets with hotels.
We ended up in a run down place ( a shack actually) just opposite. But, this shack was incredibly cheap, and hosted by a very sweet man, who served us breakfast in bed the morning after. He even drew a little map of Temuco for us. Very sweet man, quite a dirty toilet...as in real life! Otherwise, do not bother to stay in Temuco.
