Where I stayed
After the event, we grouped at the lobby and my group headed to the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa or Burj Dubai, as known previously. The last time I came here, the building was still being constructed but this time, it was already completed and no trip to Dubai is complete without a stop at Burj Khalifa and the attached Dubai Mall, which is the largest shopping mall in the world.
As we were walking around the Burj (Tower), we were amazed by the beauty and architecture of this tower. My friend, being a builder himself, was like sitting in awe admiring this building. There is a small lake surrounding the Burj where there is a brief water show which happens every night. We were fortunate to catch this show as well, but it was so brief, just around 10 minutes. After scouting around the place and taking loads of pictures, we headed inside the Dubai Mall.
The Dubai Mall was so huge that you cannot finish it in a single day. There was also a 'Underwaterworld' and Water Zoo in the mall, supposedly the largest in the world as well. Since the others were not keen to visit that, I kept that two places to be visited on the last night. We walked around Dubai Mall and after a while, felt hungry and headed to the food court. The food court did not look like a food court, instead it looked like some luxury restaurants. Prices were around the usual RM 50 per meal. After deciding what we would have to eat, we sat at our places until the food arrived.
After dinner, the ladies decided to head back to the hotel and also do some shopping in the mall. My friend and I decided that we would like to visit the Atlantis in Palm Jumeira. I have visited the Palm before but at that time, the Atlantis was not completed yet. So we took a cab from the Dubai Mall and headed towards the Atlantis. It was a long journey, almost 50 minutes. Once we arrived, we told the cab driver to wait for us and we went in and checked out the place. The hotel lobby itself was out of bounds as it was house full. The daily rate at the Atlantis is RM 5500 per night. It is supposed to be a seven star hotel. Thats for the normal rooms. We then walked into the shopping arena in the atlantis and also visited the 'Lost City of Atlantis', a small imagination as to how the place would look like I guess. Ultimately, thats how this hotel got its name Atlantis. It is supposed to be the unfound place on earth. The aquarium was great at the Atlantis. For a fee, you could also swim with the dolphins. There was also a disco which starts at 1200 midnight and closes at 5am. At around midnight, we saw loads of Ferraris, Hummers, Lamboginis and Porshes coming into the valet parking, all heading to the disco. God knows what the rates would be like.
Finally, at around 30 past midnight, we headed back to the hotel. Because of the distance, we arrived at the hotel at 0115 and the cab cost us RM 120 for two ways. But it was worth it, at least to see the place from the outside.
