This is the much awaited day and it has finally arrived. This is my 35th year participating in this event at this temple, which means from birth till date and hope to do so till the very end, if possible. :)
Woke up at 7am and left for the temple. Participated in the morning prayers and then went to the riverside to join the crowd who were taking the kavadis and milk pots.
After the preparation was over, the prayers started and the procession started at the riverside at around 9am and arrived at the temple at around 10 am. The procession goes through the entire town up to the temple for a journey of about 3 kilometers.
Then the abishegam started and ended around 10.30 am. Then, followed my family back home to get a quick refresher and was back to the temple by 1130 am. Then the afternoon prayers began at 1pm, a little later than usual as there were some politicians cum donors who were supposed to participate in the festival who had arrived late that day. Finally, lunch was served at 1.30 pm. After lunch, we left for home at 2.30 pm. Once home, we were all exhausted and quickly settled for a afternoon nap.
The reason being, we had to be back at the temple by 6pm for the chariot procession. It was raining here and there when the procession began but we rolled out as scheduled. The entire chariot procession was smooth and we came back to the temple little earlier than usual at 11.30 pm. Usually, the chariot would only return around 2 or sometimes 3 am. :)
With that, there was a small prayer in the temple and then the ceremony ended. The chariot procession was grand with somewhat more than 100 devotees walking through with the chariot the entire journey.
After all ended we were home by around 1.30 am. A very tiring day but happy as I had the chance to participate in this years event too. Looking forward to next years event now.
