Back to the States after 13 months

After a 24 hour period of being in airports or airplanes, we've landed and are now visiting relatives in California. I have to mention that as far as a long, crowded plane ride goes, Quantas does a fantastic job.
It's very nice to see family and go to big, cheap American grocery stores where you have a million choices of everything and it's all cheap :-). I'm easily caught up in just looking at all the things that are available to me to buy. We went clothes shopping today and it's disappointing to me that I no longer look good in jeans...way too many yummy meals in New Zealand--plus that whole year in McMurdo, eating high fat, high carb cafeteria meals. Oh well, I hope I can get back into them soon.
California is as nice as New Zealand was, the weather is perfect--not too hot, not too cold and it's fun being with family again. We ended up hiring a private car from the airport to get us from LAX to the place we're staying but I swear it was worth it. A driver met us at the exit holding a sign with our names in it, leading us to a very nice Lincoln Town Car with tinted windows and everything. I totally felt safe on the drive North.
Not much planned for this stint of the trip--mostly having an early Thanksgiving, catching up with relatives, shopping and also getting up to date on all the movies we've missed over the past year.
Next stop, Minneapolis and onto Wisconsin and then Christmas in Montana!
