It's sort of funny that I've been here for over 9 months and haven't set foot in the bowling alley. Last night I got my chance when I was asked to be a fill in on Ron's team. The two-lane bowling alley was built in 1960 and was probably high tech then, but now it's an antique-there are even Pinsetters (i.e. people that set up the pins manually). Usually they wear bright, striped socks so that you don't accidentally forget they're down there and huck a ball at them.

There are two lanes. On the first one, you have to veer your ball to the right and on the other one, you have to throw it right down the middle--both of the lanes are warped. You bring your own drinks and music. It costs $2 for the game and $1 for the shoes plus a tip for the Pinsetter on duty. I forgot how fun it is to bowl, I'm going to make it a point to go at least a few times when I'm back home. I scored 115 and I'm told that's great for down here. Our team ended up losing but it didn't matter at all.

Tonight they're showing some IMAX movies on the big screen tv in the coffee house and the first one is about Hawaii...it will be fun to imagine being there.
